The World's Most Expensive Residential Unit

The last month, the American business man “Kenneth Griffin's” purchased a penthouse in New York City for $238 million, making it not only the most expensive housing unit in the United States but also the most expensive residential unit in the world.

The unit was offered for sale for the first time in 2015 for $250 million. But, it ended up sold for $238 million, breaking the record for the duplex unit that was sold in New York in 2014 for $100.5 million.

The unit is located in a giant skyscraper in the heart of New York City in one of the most luxurious neighborhoods. The tower is called 220 Central Park South and it is still under construction. Also, the tower is developed by “Vornado Trust Realty”.

Also, the unit, bought by the billionaire “Kenneth Griffin's”, is stretching over almost 7315 m2 containing 116 units as the tower measures 305 meters high and consists of 70 floors.

85% of the housing units at 220 Central Park South Tower were already sold as last November, Tong Tong Chao, founder of a Shanghai Hotel Management Company, bought the 27th floor of the tower with a total area of 2.394 square feet for $13.49 million.

In addition, the British musician Sting and his wife also bought a housing unit in the same tower.

Moreover, its luxurious designs, spacious living rooms, advanced technology, private elevators and high ceilings are some of the outstanding characterizes in the sold penthouse.

Furthermore, Griffin, the founder of Citadel Capital, is also interested in buying expensive real estate units. Griffin has spent hundreds of millions on buying apartments in New York, Chicago, Miami and London. He also bought the most expensive apartment in Miami for $60 million in 2015, and another apartment in Chicago for $58.75 million.
